Nurse Stump - June

I’ve photographed nurse stumps for years and always knew I would embark on a series about them. Focusing on the place this stump occupies in the woods, the intricacies of her form, and the sustenance provided to the younger trees who grow from the stump are all part of her story. The chief function of the tree has shifted from photosynthesis, transpiration, and reproduction to more of a supporting role for the health of the forest.
